Plus, you’re likely to have them for years—decades, even. So how can you choose wisely? It’s a good idea to do what you’re doing right now: looking at a review from someone who’s been hands on with them… like me. I’ve been working on a Midea washer-dryer review.

I’ll show you what you get with both the washer and dryer, what the special features are—including steam washing and steam drying. I’ll wrap things up with both the pros and the cons of this Midea laundry pair and let you know if I think I can recommend them for you.

Midea Washer Dryer in-home review + Pros & Cons

I would like to thank Midea for sponsoring this post. While the company did send me the washer-dryer to test and review in my home, it didn’t tell me what I have to say or can’t say, and I got to test them out as I wanted to, so these thoughts are all my own.

Don’t forget you can watch my full video review on YouTube so you can see these machines in action.

My machines are sold by Costco, which handled the delivery and installation for me. If you’re a DIYer, it’s totally possible to do this yourself, but always nicer to have an expert help you, particularly to install the water connection and steam hose which I needed for the steam drying.

Design & Installation

The charcoal and rose gold colour scheme on this Midea pair is really elegant, so I wanted to make the room look nicer by hiding all the tubing and ductwork as best I could.

Since neither rebuilding nor rerouting the lines was an option, I added some SmartWings automated roller shades that can hide all the ducting and my drying racks easily, making the new Midea laundry machines the focus of the space.

Midea washer dryer dimensions

Midea washer dryer in a real home. Both the Midea Front Load Washer and Electric Dryer measure about 27 inches (66.58 cm) wide, 39.8 inches (101.09 cm) tall, and roughly 33 inches (83.82 cm) deep. These are stackable, but since you need a 3-inch top clearance, they just wouldn’t fit that way in my space.

In the side-by-side configuration like I have, Midea gives you options as well; you can reverse the doors on either the washer or the dryer, and the dryer vent can actually be routed out the back, bottom, or even the side depending on what works better in your home.

Full Review: Midea Front Load Washer

Let’s get to know each machine…I’ll start with the washer. The Midea Front Load Washer has a 5.2-cubic feet drum which is more than enough room to fit a king-size bed cover, and I’ll be testing that out in a few moments.

Considering the washer’s 27-inch width, Midea did a remarkable job fitting such a spacious drum into a standard size package.

A larger capacity washer is great for washing bigger items like comforters, duvets, and sleeping bags, while it’s also much more efficient because it lets you do larger loads— which is not only a time saver but can cut down on electricity and water use too.

The Midea washer has an easy-to-read control panel on the front with the power and the start button as touch controls, plus a dial to choose your cycle. There’s also a digital display which will show how much time is left in your wash cycle.

Interestingly I also learned that the cycle time is affected by a few things in everyone’s home; things like the water pressure and the balance of the load in the washer. It’s not uncommon to see the time on the display increase to accommodate a slower spin speed for larger or unbalanced loads.

In the drawer here, you’ll add your detergent, fabric softener and bleach. Possibly worth noting is that you must use high efficiency detergent for this washer. Markers inside the drawer help you measure.

10 Customizable Preset Cycles

Midea Washer Dryer in place in a real laundry room with mango coloured walls. You get a choice of 10 preset wash cycles.

“Normal / Colors” is your basic go-to cycle cycle for regular clothes and household linens, and there’s nine other options:

“Whites” is self-explanatory while “Heavy Duty” is ideal larger clothes, coats, and jeans, “Bulky / Sheets” is ideal for comforters, blankets, and small rugs, “Towels” for bed sheets, pillow cases, dish rags, and towels, “Delicates” for light fabrics, and “Sportswear, which I was keen to try for my workout gear.” The remaining two preset cycles include a “Tub Clean” option for washer maintenance and a “Rinse & Spin” cycle.

There’s also a very handy “Quick Wash” cycle that will do a full wash in approximately 26 minutes.

While these preset cycles determine the wash temperatures, and spin speeds for you, you can actually customize both of these choices, and even choose the soil level for clothes that just need to light wash versus more dirt scrubbing.

With up to five levels of each option depending on your chosen preset cycle, you can fine tune the performance of your Midea washer depending on your needs.

I really liked the option to choose an overall cycle, using the sheets or heavy duty but then adjusting the water temperature.

If you find a custom setting combination you use often, you can even save your user-defined preset by holding the “My Cycle” button for 3 seconds.

Testing the washer

To test the washer out I ran about a dozen loads through the machine over two weeks.

As I do the rest of my laundry, I’ll uses some of the core special features of Midea washer.

Extra Stain Removal Options

Midea offers two extra options that happen before the selected wash cycle begins, to tackle tougher stains. The first option is “Steam Care” which sterilizes the laundry load for fresher clothes.

I decided to try this on a load of towels. You know how towels and washcloths especially can start to smell musty even after they’ve been cleaned? This setting gives you peace of mind that you’re getting the deepest possible clean. I also really liked this Steam Care setting for pet beds and laundry I wanted to get extra clean, like when the dog had an accident on the rug. Life happens!

To deal with more stubborn stains, you can also try the “Pre-Soak” option to have it break down clothing stains through soaking.

I took a few old towels outside and really tried to get some grass stains on them. Then I tossed them in the Midea washer and used the pre-soak setting.

You can see when they came out all of the grass stains and dirt was completely gone.

Other Features

 Add Garment

Everyone knows one of the downsides of a front load washer is that once the cycle is set and started, you can’t interrupt it and can’t toss in those extra socks you found, or the T-shirt you really really need cleaned. Midea has solved this problem for us with its Add Garment feature.

To use it just press the play pause button and wait until the door unlocks. While this may take about 30 seconds depending on the machine cycle and stage, you can add your items and then press the play pause button to restart.  This is huge!

Water Plus & Extra Rinse

Other useful features of the Midea Front Load Washer include “Water Plus” which will actually let you add more water to the drum, even mid-cycle. For extra dirty laundry loads, you can use the “Extra Rinse” option.

Big & bulky loads

Midea washer dryer in a laundry room.As part of my review testing, I wanted to really push the envelope and see if Midea washer could clean larger king-size blankets and comforters.

As you can see in my video I got a this king size comforter into the machine no problem. And it came out very clean with no residue.

I decided to push things even further by washing this king size down-filled quilt. I’ve tried washing this one at home before and it’s so big and bulky that it often shut down my old washer because it just gets so heavy when it’s wet.

I was really surprised to find Midea washer did an excellent job thoroughly cleaning it with no problems. Here I also used the Steam Care on it because the dogs have been up on the bed so I’ve got extra confidence this blanket is back on the bed clean as a whistle.

I also ran a cycle using the Sportswear setting on my gym clothes and while you’re not going to get some miracle level of cleanliness out of it when you open the door, this gentler cycle should help pricey workout and sports gear lasts a little longer and potentially be less prone to stretching out over time.

Midea Front Load Electric Dryer

Let’s move on to the dryer…The Midea Front Load Electric Dryer uses an 8-cubic foot drum.

The capacity matches that of the washer meaning that if you’re going to wash bigger loads, you can count on them getting dried afterwards.

Let’s walk through some of the features of this dryer as I tested it out…

Steam Dry

Midea washer dryer in a laundry room. One of the features I was most excited about was the steam drying.

Steam drying uses hot, moist air which can penetrate fabrics to help reduce wrinkles in clothing, towels and sheets. It can also help sanitize and refresh. You can add steam to any of the preset cycles by just pressing the Steam button.

Wrinkle Care Option

Anytime you’re drying, you can also press the Wrinkle Care button.

This feature adds about 90 minutes of intermittent tumbling in an unheated drum at the end of any drying cycle. This should help to reduce wrinkles on clothes. The load will be dry and it simply tosses the clothing around to prevent wrinkles from setting in, so you can take the clothes out anytime during this additional step.

Another way to use steam is to try the Steam Refresh cycle, which can pull the wrinkles out of a shirt, pants or napkins quickly by tumbling the fabrics with steam for 15 minutes. This doesn’t leave the fabric damp afterwards, since from what I can tell, it first steams, then dries afterwards.

Quiet operation

I do want to call out how very quiet this dryer is. Our old dryer was very loud when it was running and could be a big distraction. I’d say this new dryer is at least half as noisy and it’s no issue either working or sleeping next to it.

Sensor Dry

The dryer has a sensor which can tell when your clothes are dry and adjust itself. That means if your clothes dry quickly, the dryer won’t just keep running. That’s good for both your energy bill and to help avoid damage to your clothes.

Bacteria-killing Sanitize Dry Cycle

For folks sensitive to allergens, the “Sanitize” dry cycle might be the feature you never knew you needed.

It uses a higher temperature and with an “Extra Dry” level to kill germs and almost sterilize clothes. Of course, this is not meant for delicate fabrics and clothes as the high temperature may cause shrinkage or ruin the fabric’s elasticity, so be sure to read the wash labels on your clothes.

Other Preset Dry Cycles

Midea dryerThe “Normal”, “Towels”, and “Delicates” drying presets speak for themselves, while “Bulky” gives you a longer run time at nearly 2 hours using a medium temperature. This is designed for blankets, sheets and comforters.

So that’s the cycle I chose to dry my heavy king-size comforters. The sinner comforter came out almost completely dry after just one run through. Not surprisingly the much fluffier king size comforter did take a couple of cycles before it was thoroughly dry.

There’s also a “Heavy Duty” cycle for fabrics like denim with a higher dry level and high temperature, which runs one hour.

An “Air Fluff” cycle (20 minutes with no heat), “Quick Dry” cycle (30 minutes at high heat), and “Time Dry” cycle (40 minutes at medium heat) round out your drying options.

Like the Midea Front Load Washer, you can make your own adjustments to each preset cycle, including changing the dry level, temperature, time, and other options for certain modes and save it to a single custom “My Cycle” preset.

Overall Review: Midea Laundry Bundle

Let’s go over both the pros and the cons of this laundry pair so you can see if it might be right for your home.

On the pro side… the design is really nice and makes your laundry room look like a meaningful part of the house, not your average basement afterthought.

The machines are easy to use, with digital controls, and plenty of preset cycle options if you don’t want to fuss. Conversely though if you want to adjust the settings and create your own presets, you can do that too. I love that both the washer and the dryer off steam options for more powerful cleaning or wrinkle free drying.

Midea washer dryer in a laundry room.I found both machines operate quite a bit quieter than our old laundry pair.

And it may go without saying, but these machines do their jobs well, getting the clothes clean and dry.

When it comes to the cons, really the only thing I’ve personally found so far is that for me, in my space, these machines were a smidge too tall to stack in my basement. Of course that’s no fault of Midea. The only other consideration for folks might be that, for the moment, there’s no pedestals available for this pair (which lets you raise them up off the floor to a more comfortable height). Definitely something I’d like to see and would consider adding in the future if it should ever be offered.

The last thing I’ll mention is that while there is a warranty, it’s only two years, so that might be a consideration for some of you.

In short, I’ve been having a great experience with my Midea washer-dryer pair and I can definitely recommend them to you.
