Have you upgraded to Apple’s new mobile operating system and you’re thinking… ‘meh’? Knowing what’s new or what’s hidden in the new software can be challenging. Here’s some of the things you can do with the new Apple iOS11.

ios 11 tips tricks how to appleReorganize Control Centre

Yee haw! Control Centre is customizable . Everything is now on one page instead of spread over multiple swipe cards.

To adjust, go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls and you can add and remove items or rearrange the order in which they appear.

Go dark

If iOS 11 is too bright for you, it’s easy to make it darker: hit up Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Invert Colours and switch on Smart Invert.

Tell Siri your secrets

So you don’t want to announce to your office mates, ‘Hey Siri, what time is my pap smear on Friday?’ Now you can type questions into Siri instead of verbalizing them.
Via Settings > General > Accessibility > Siri, enable something called ‘Type To Siri’. Then, long-pressing on the Home button brings up the keyboard. “Hey Siri” still works, and if you’ve enabled voice feedback that still works too.

Auto-delete old conversations

ios 11 tips tricks how to appleLarge message strings with data-hogging attachments can secretly eat up your storage. It’s now possible to auto-delete old Messages. Head to Settings>General>iPhone Storage>and check off the option for “Auto Delete Old Conversations”.

Ditch QR code apps

You can delete all those QR Code reader apps you’ve added over the years. The iPhone’s camera now recognizes a QR code on its own. Just open your camera app and point it at the code. You don’t need to be centred, or fit the code in a frame. A notification bar will appear at the top of your screen and offer to take you to the website it links to.

Explore Files app

You may have seen a new app on your phone called Files. This is where you’ll now access all your documents, including stuff on iCloud Drive or with third-party cloud storage providers, like Google Drive, Dropbox and more. Easy to find, search and access.

Do Not Disturb while driving

iOS’s new “Do Not Disturb while driving” feature keeps notifications and texts from alerting you while you’re on the move. You can set it up to send a customized response to people you select.
This feature will nudge you to enable it the first few times it detects driving (thanks to the built in accelerometer in your phone) Go turn it on or off, go to Settings > Do Not Disturb.

Touch and hold emoji key or the globe key, and you’ll get an option to move the keyboard to one side or the other.

Wireless chargingios 11 tips tricks how to apple

Apple’s new phones have wireless charging available. While Apple isn’t selling their own charging pads, they do have options from trusted partners, like Belkin.

Remove webpage clutter

This option is great for your phone, when lots of lines can be a hassle to scroll through on our small screen. You can now remove all extraneous lines, including ads (!) from a webpage by clicking the 4-line hamburger-style menu option in the URL bar.
After playing with this a bit, some websites work better than others.
