It’s a great time to be outdoors. While we can advocate for leaving your phone inside and enjoying nature,  there are still some pretty neat gadgets that can help you make the most of your camping, trip, hiking adventure, or backyard shenanigans.

BioLite SunLight solar light

If you can avoid packing power banks and chargers with you on a trip, you should. That’s why this solar powered mini light is such a great choice. Made by BioLite, who make the awesome CampStove and NanoGrid lighting kit I’ve reviewed previously have added this compact but bright mini light to their arsenal. Prop it up on its stand or hang it with the tiny hook to either direct your light, or catch the sun’s rays for a full recharge.

Wacaco Nanopresso espresso maker

This compact, bullet shaped gadget makes single shots of espresso just about anywhere. Everything you need cleverly hides inside and all that’s required to operate it is hand power. Read the full review of the Nanopresso Espresso maker here.

Water heating mug

To make hot espresso, you need hot water, and this gadget delivers. Just plug it in to your car’s 12 volt cigarette lighter power connector and you won’t have hot water for long. I found this version on Amazon. (See below)

Pyle Portable power shower

Lugging big bulky tanks of water with you just to have a shower isn’t practical. This rechargeable pump attaches to a hose and a spray nozzle so you can get cleaned up whether you’re at the campground or on a backcountry trail. The battery is detachable, making it easy to recharge.[amazon_link asins=’B075375ZYF’ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’techgadcanada-20′ marketplace=’CA’ link_id=’a17dda24-83bc-11e8-8ba8-19b5d750bb97′]

GoSky Monocular

Sometimes the zoom on a smartphone just isn’t enough. get closer to all the action that nature has to offer with the GoSky Monocular. This single monocular lets you zoom in and focus up on all the action, but best of all, you can attach your smartphone using the special ‘digiscoping adapter’ and take photos or videos of what’s in the sky, or on the ground. Bigfoot hunting, anyone?

The outdoors can always be more enjoyable with the right gadgets to make life more comfortable.

I have to be honest, I don’t do camping. However, my in-laws love to camp and we all need our morning fix of caffeine. What a great gadget! I enjoyed your tech segment on CTV morning live.

  2. Joyce on July 10, 2018 at 5:28 pm

Not just for camping! I am going to look into the Cyclone product you talked about this morning. Just can not seem to get the upstairs bedrooms cooled off despite having air conditioning.

  3. Brian Ness on July 10, 2018 at 5:24 pm

Camping: Our god daughter has met a wonderful man and they have decided to get married on top of a mountain. I cannot think of a better surprise for them to pour them a hot steaming espresso when they get up in the morning after the ceremony. The hike is 8 kilometers in length with over a thousand meters of vertical. We checked the trail report this AM and the trail is still covered in snow! I certainly hope it is gone by the August long weekend when they have planned their wedding. If not lots of espresso will be needed. Thanks, always enjoy your talks.
