It’s been HOT where I live. Really, bakingly hot.  The kind of heat where you don’t want to turn on the oven for dinner, or even boil water. Lighting candles is out of the question. Despite the fact that some subtle flickering ambiance is nice, adding anything that says ‘heat’ is not happening. That’s why I love Playbulb’s new electronic candles, Candle S.

Playbulb Candle has been around for a few years, but this iteration has been improved. For starters there’s now two versions of what’s now called Playbulb Candle S; battery powered (3 AAA batteries) or a rechargeable version. They’re also brighter and more vibrant, and have a new undulating design that’s a nice change. Best of all they’re still fully controllable with the Playbulb app so you can adjust colour, brightness, special effects and turn them on and off from afar.

Like the previous generation you can tap the Candle to switch the colour, or blow on it to turn it off and on too, and turn it upside down and tuck a small tealight in the cup on the base, creating a vibrant colourful candle holder for when you do want to try using regular candles again.

Multiple Playbulb Candles can be grouped together using the Playbulb X app so you can control several at once; think of using 4 or 5 on a long dining table and having them all in sync and coloured to match your dishware. Fun, right? Paging Martha Stewart!

The next generation Playbulb Candle S lanterns are available from Mipow and Amazon.
