Erin Lawrence

Erin Lawrence is a Canadian content creator, freelance writer and well-known female tech reviewer with more than two decades of experience in the news and media industries. She combines her background in television journalism with a consumer-friendly approach to product testing, publishing product reviews and tips on her blog TechGadgetsCanada.com and YouTube channel ErinLawrenceTV under her new media company, Erin Lawrence Media.

Early Years

Erin has a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario. She kickstarted her career in broadcast journalism in the late 90s working as a news anchor for ShawTV in the greater Toronto area. Over the years, she’s worked as a reporter, writer, producer  and newsroom manager for several major television stations across Canada including Global News, CTV news and CBC News Calgary.

Awards and accolades

Yeedi M14 Pro Plus reviewErin’s most recent award came from YouTube; she received the coveted Silver Play Button awarded to YouTubers with over 100,000 subscribers.

Fun fact: She was the first dedicated cameraperson and producer in a news helicopter, when Global TV Toronto began to operate Canada’s first news helicopter in the late 1990’s.

During her media career, Erin received several awards including an Edward R. Murrow Award for her work producing and leading Global National’s coverage on another Canadian first; the Decision Canada Bus Tour in 2004, a coast-to-coast mobile newscast encompassing nearly a month on the road.

Erin won a second Edward R. Murrow Award for her work on the 2014 news documentary, “Water at the Door,” overseeing production of the story of Alberta’s devastating floods. Other major milestones and awards under her belt include winning a National Galaxi Award: Silver for Best News or Information Program, winning Best Television News Story for her 1999 coverage of York Regional Police, and her pitch to the Banff Documart festival won third place covering Murder for Love; The Jadah Walker Story. Lifestyle magazine, Avenue Calgary also featured Erin in their 2011 Top 40 Under 40 list.

One of Canada’s most hardworking female tech reviewers

Erin began her journey as a female tech blogger in early 2013 when she launched her personal blog covering all her favourite, if disparate topics: food, travel, tips, and tech, as well as her extensive experience as a jewelry designer and silversmith. Finding her interest and a welcoming nich with vastly growing readership, that blog transitioned to become TechGadgetsCanada.com a few years later, with Erin as the leading female tech expert. She has also contributed to BestBuy.ca’s Tech Blog for many years as a writer and TV & Home Theatre editor.

Rise as a Female Tech Influencer

Erin wasn’t always one of Canada’s best YouTubers. Erin launched her YouTube channel mid-2015 to complement her tech blog with some early reviews of various home and consumer electronic products. Her journalistic tone, honest reviewing, and focus on product usability over technical specifications helped establish her fan base with just her 8th upload breaking the 100,000 views mark and her smart TV reviews attracting millions of views. She has also been invited to make guest appearances in various podcasts including the GetConnected Video Podcast, Uncle Marv’s IT Business Podcast, and Home Gadget Geeks.

Amazon Influencer, Top Canada YouTuber, and Beyond

Erin continues to post as a top tech reviewer in Canada on TechGadgetCanada which has since evolved to include a parallel site, TechGadgetsInternational.com to reflect the growing international readership and viewership that Erin’s expertise as a top female tech reviewer has brought. After being invited by Amazon to join its OnSite Influencer, Erin has wrapped up hundreds of thousands of views from Amazon customers watching her content directly on Amazon.com.

These days Erin has expanded from more traditional gadget reviews to test and review electric bikes, appliances and Erin’s even become a popular car reviewer, having been invited to test vehicles from Lexus, Mazda, Toyota, Chevrolet and more.

Erin is both a US tech reviewer and a Canadian tech reviewer and has traveled around the world attending events from CES in Las Vegas to IFA in Berlin. She was once named to the Top 100 Twitter influencers in Calgary and her YouTube channel reached 100,000 subscribers in September 2025.

When Erin is away from blogging as a top tech reviewer in Canada, she spends her time cooking, and walking her dogs Rainie and Kica with her husband Roger.
