Audio-Technica ATH-CK3TW review

The ATH-CK3TW truly wireless in-ear headphones have Bluetooth 5.0 technology which should make for a stronger connection between the headphones and your smartphone, tablet or computer. The headphones have an IPX2 water-resistance rating, which means they are protected against dripping water, like rain and sweat, so these would be a decent choice if you’re into sports and running or you spend a lot of time outside and in inclement weather. Important to note: these headphones do not have any noise cancellation technology.

Charging Case & battery life: Audio-Technica ATH-CK3TW

The ATH-CK3TW headphones come with a small charging case that stores them and holds extra power. The ATH-CK3TW earbuds give you six hours of  use on a full charge, with 24 hours of extra juice in the charging case. Both the earbuds and the charging case have lights to denote the charging status, and the charging case is equipped with a USB-C battery jack when you need to recharge.

The headphones have 5.8 mm drivers that Audio-Technica says reproduces powerful, detailed audio from an ultra-compact design.

These low profile earbuds should fit most ears with four sizes of thin, flexible silicone eartips in the package so you can customize the fit. A snug fit will also help with noise isolation and imporve overall listening quality.

The compact earbud housings have a built-in mic and touch controls that are pretty easy to find with your fingertips. With some earbuds, you have to hit the tap sensor perfectly or it won’t work. With the Audio-Technicas, you can be less exact and still get results.

Using Audio-Technica ATH-CK3TW truly wireless in-ear earbuds

Using the headphones is easy peasy. The auto power-on function turns the earbuds on when they’re removed from your case and will shut them off and begin re-charging them again when they’re returned to the case. This worked well for me, and the buds connected on their own to the last device I used them with. High Five!

In-ear detection feature

The package boasts automatic in-ear detection that is supposed to play/pause your music if you take them out of your ears. I couldn’t get this to work for me, whether I removed one or both earbuds. The music just kept playing and I needed to stop it on my smartphone.

Audio quality: Audio-Technica ATH-CK3TW

I hit play on my Spotify test playlist to see what these are made of. I was impressed by the bass right off the bat. The ATH-CK3TW seem quite well balanced and even-sounding. The voice tracks stand out well, and there’s no undue lean to the high end, no hum, or tinniness. Overall, these headphones sound very good and I was happy listening to them.

Audio-Technica says the call quality should be great, thanks to Qualcomm Clear Voice Capture technology. Call audio also plays in both headphones (nice!), making conversations even easier to listen to. In my phone calls my callers said I sounded good and they sounded fine to me too.

I felt like I couldn’t get a really great comfortable fit with these. They have an oval shape that didn’t seem to sit into my ear concha very well. I felt like they were top heavy and leaned out of my ears, despite the fact I was able to get a good seal with the proper eartips.

Audio Technica app
You will find an app in the App Store for Audio-Technica products but they do not appear to work with this model of headphones. As a result, you won’t find any extra controls or access to the Find my Headphones/Product Finder feature. (But that’s okay sine there’s no promise of that anyway)

Touch controls: Audio-Technica ATH-CK3TW earbuds

The touch controls on these headphones work quite well and let you play/pause and skip tracks easily. With some earbuds, you have to hit the touch sensor perfectly or it won’t work. With these, you could be a less precise and the taps would still get results.

Overall review: Audio-Technica ATH-CK3TW truly wireless earbuds

Overall, I’m definitley happy with these headphones. They’re compact, and they sound great. The fit is pretty good once you finesse it, there’s lots of battery life between the buds and the case, and the touch controls are responsive. I wasn’t able to get the auto pause feature working so that was a letdown for me, but not a deal killer. I can definitely recommend Audio-Technica ATH-CK3TW as your next truly wireless headphones. They sell for about $149CAD from Best Buy or Amazon.
