I’ve been searching for a set of hot rollers for a while now. So I was excited when T3 Micro sent me a set of their Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe to test out.

The rollers come in a set of 8 rollers, with a plastic base. Each roller attaches to a small rod and the entire unit gets plugged in so the rollers all heat up at once. There’s varying sizes in this kit, from 1.5″ to 1.75″ and each roller is covered in a soft velvety flock. The T3 Micro hot rollers also come with a nice zippered case that keeps them in order and dust free.

How to use T3 Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe

The Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe take only about 3 minutes to heat up. You’ll know they’re ready when the circles on top of the rollers glow… maybe not so much as glow, but turn opaque grey.T3 Micro Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe review how to

When hot, they’re actually not super hot to the touch (and the top and bottom rims remain cool the whole time), but they do seem to warm up as they sit on the head, before cooling off. I don’t know if that’s my perception, or that’s what they’re designed to do. After a few tests I think this is probably just the heat absorbing into my head as the rollers sit.

You wrap your hair around the roller and secure with included plastic clips which are large and grip the hair well. They are designed as combs so they don’t clamp or crease the hair as much as they grip through the hair, if that makes any sense. They don’t tangle at all.

Instructions suggest you leave the rollers in for 20 minutes for optimum results.

If you’re at all familiar with using hot rollers, these are simple to use, and even newbies will likely have no trouble with them.T3 Micro Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe review how to

There are two heat settings; high and low. Heat level is selected using the power button. There’s also a 1-hour auto-off for worry-free styling, which I really appreciate since I’m forever leaving my hair tools on.

The Curl – T3 Hot Rollers

My experience with these rollers is that they provide more of a soft wave than a defined curl or ringlet, but that’s par for the course with hot rollers. I have just-past-shoulder length hair that’s pretty thick. Normally it takes a curl and volume from velcro rollers quite easily and stays put for most of the day.

Third time’s a charm!

The first time I used them I got a bit of a disappointingly weak wave that kind of fell out of my hair a couple hours later. I chalk that up to inexperience and too-dirty hair.

Next time I wound the hair around the rollers, rather than wrapping/rolling it straight up. The hair definitely came out more bendy, but a quick finger comb released that and I was left with more subtle volume than curls.

I tried the rollers again hours after freshly washing and blow drying my hair. This was the best result by far. I got more defined curls, and even after I finger-combed through them, they were still quite bouncy.

Overall review of T3 Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe

I love using the T3 Micro Curl 360  and the Featherweight Luxe dryer (that review here), so I had big hopes for the Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe.

It definitely took a few tries to get the results I wanted, and clean hair is most definitely key, at least for me. Overall I like these rollers; I like the packaging, the flocking, and the concept of them and they do a really good job of giving solid volume.

If I had to make one complaint, I didn’t like the fact that there are only 8 rollers in this set, so I can’t do my whole head. I need to do the first, 8 then wait 20 minutes and do another set of 8, which given my morning timelines is unrealistic. Perhaps I can order some extra rollers, and replace them on the base to heat, as I work my way through my hair? (Indeed, extra rollers are available for $10 each (expensive!) on Amazon: T3 Micro Volumizing Hot Rollers, 1.75 Inch, 2 Count)

The Volumizing Hot Rollers Luxe sells for about $120-159 USD from T3 or Amazon
